Information Flows in Minorities

Strengthening Communication & Trust
A conference dedicated to understanding how minority communities access and share information—and how institutions can better engage with them.

Bridging the Gap in Communication

For a state to truly serve all its citizens, it must understand the needs, concerns, and perspectives of different communities. How do minorities in Czechia access information? Why do some distrust official sources? How can public institutions engage with them more effectively?

The Information Flows in Minorities conference, organized by Prague Centre for Media Skills, the Centre for an Informed Society (CIS), and the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic for Human Rights, brought together key stakeholders to explore these questions.

Topics discussed:
🔴 How do minority groups receive and share information?
🔴 What role do social media, traditional media, and community networks play?
🔴 How well does the Czech state communicate with them—in their language, in their spaces, with an active feedback loop?

Project Duration: December, 2024 – March, 2025

Participants and Programme

This event featured voices from Roma, Vietnamese, and Ukrainian communities, as well as Czech Sign Language (ČZJ) users—a group often overlooked in communication policies. They were joined by experts from academia, public institutions, and the civic sector.
You can download the Conference Programme here (in Czech).

Key Takeaways & Insights

🔺 More data & research are needed – Thanks to Charles University and the University of South Bohemia for sharing their findings.
🔺 More time for discussion – Deeper exploration of issues is crucial.
🔺 More decision-makers must be involved – Turning insights into policy change requires greater institutional engagement.
